BFX Competition

From 8th July till the 16th August I have been in a competition in Bournemouth called BFX.
I am with team of talented people of 6 and we created a new take on Alice in Wonderland.
Here is a teaser image for the time being as we are currently being refrained from showing our animation.

In this project I was Technical Director so I did many various things. Mainly texturing, rigging, simulations and nuke compositing the integration of 2D and 3D. It was definitely a challenge to merge the two worlds and have so many elements blend together.
Below I present you my cupcake rig which was modelled by Rami but textured, rigged and animated by me
This was probably the fun part of the project where I get to relax a bit and do some rigging. I approached it with a mindset of doing a cartoony rig. So it can stretch and scale in many ways. The whipcream, moustage, legs and body can be scaled and stretch and globally scaling works aswell.

This project had so much work involved that we had this quote that we all said often.
'Move on'.
It's such a simple motive but sometimes we all get wrapped up in perfecting something that does not need reworking. We all had a tight schedule to stick to and had a production factory going on with modelling, UVing and texturing. 3 of us handled that for 2 weeks straight.

The team was
Mina Bellacotkà - Director, 2D Animator
Michal Rutkowski - Producer, Lighting/Shading
Rami Ali - Modeller, Texture Artist
Sarah Ismail - 2D Animator, Character Designer
Artur Zima - Matte Painter, Compositor, Texture Artist
Me - Technical Director, Compositor, Texture Artist

There will be a BFX Festival in late September and maybe I'll see some people there (including you) if you are coming :)
Big people from ILM, Pixar, DNEG, Framestore and so forth will be there to do talks and workshops.
On the final day there will be a presentation award ceremony for the BFX competitors to see who wins what !
It was an amazing experience to work in this group even though it's pink orientated but it was good to use new workflows to make this animation.
